Pat, I'd like to buy a vowel
When you are learning languages where:
bird=oiseau (french) and
brother=taea'e (te reo Tahiti)
you need a lot of vowels.
Bonjour tout le monde! Iaorana! I hope you are all having a wonderful week and surviving the heat well. It was yet again another awesome week and I am almost 8 weeks into my mission!
My family went to Colorado this week to help my taea'e Kyle move. I went to Richmond, Utah to stay with my aunt and uncle during the week. It was very very fun! I loved being able to mix things up, learn Tahitian somewhere else, and eat all of Jared's cherries. Shout out to Angie and Jared and my cool cool cousins Jessie and Annie.
I feel like my Tahitian has improved a TON this week! There have been several times where I will feel as if we have learned all the different sentence structures you could ever possibly need... and then we are taught a new one.
During one class, we broke off into small groups to prepare short lessons in Tahitian. I was with the lovely Tuahine Morrison and the lovely Tuahine Naehu. Tuahine Naehu is from Tahiti and speaks Tahitian beautifully. During our lesson, Sœur Naehu bore her testimony in Tahitian and I could understand it. Maybe not word for word, and I definitely would not be able to repeat anything that she said, but I truly felt that I knew the meaning of her testimony. Throughout my Tahitian language-learning process, I have really struggled with listening comprehension. I can create sentences with the many sentence structures and I can read things (with my new best friend the Tahitian-English dictionary), but I cannot listen and understand. When I understood Tuahine Naehu, it was such a testament to me of the gift of tongues. I am definitely NOT going to be able to learn either French or Tahitian without divine help. I felt that divine aid during that lesson.
(Tahitian is still WILD though. Later on, we only had 20 seconds to finish our lesson so Sr Naehu pulled out some FAST Tahitian and I understood very little.)
Other things that happened this week:
I went to a parade to watch James march in the marching band. He really puts the i in tradition. (that is truly only a joke for my mom.)
I learned the preposition dance and then had to repeat it maybe 20 times. (attached is the dance)
I had sweet-potato ice cream. (thanks Angie, you truly know the way to my heart.)
"But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness.
"To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
"Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great."
-Acts 26: 16, 18 & 22.
As I near the end of my time in the home MTC, I testify that I have been helped by God. Being in the basement MTC for 63 days learning two languages has not been easy, but because I have obtained help from God, I continue to this day. I can show the goodness of God to others and help them turn from darkness to light.
Love you all! Ua here au ia outou! Je vous aime!
Attached are some pretty good talks/tunes from this week.
