You fall off à chair one time during à lesson...
It was a slow life-flashing-before-your-eyes fall.
Bonjour tout le monde!
This week was not too crazy but know that probably 30% of our time was spent trying to figure out Alexis's baptismal papers. Rip.
My tahiti-related abilities are slowly progressing! My french is getting better, I can understand more Tahitian, and I am way better at killing mosquitos and sweeping cockroaches out of our house. And that is growth.
By rough estimates, we think that we have been given $150 of fresh coconut water in 3 weeks. Take that dehydration.
I went on exchanges in Faaripo with Sister Jorgensen! We were on bikes which was fun and we taught a lot of cool lessons! One of our friends said the following:
"Yooooo my friend i hinaaro un casse crout."
That is indeed a sentence in 3 languages and if anyone can figure out what it means, you win!
I don't have a lot to write about this week. We entered a rainy season of sorts. On Wednesday it rained really really hard and a woman said "it hasn't rained in a long time!" My first thought was "woman! It rains every day!" but that was simply a reflection from Utah girl's definition of rain. It had not ~tahitian rained~ in quite some time. ~tahitian rain~ is very different but really fun.
As I said, I don't have a ton to write about, but here are some lessons I learned this week:
1. God did a good job when He created the earth. Everytime I have been sad or frustrated, I see a sunset or a rainbow or some ocean waves that remind me that Heavenly Father is aware of my situation. Heavenly Father does love us, individually and perfectly, and the healing and empowering beauty of the earth testify of that love.
2. Conference was also good in English! We have been going back and relistening to the talks in English. I really liked this one:
Christ Heals That Which Is Broken
3. I studied Matthew 14 yesterday. This chapter details the death of John the Baptist and Christ feeding the 5 thousand.
13 ¶ When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.
After Christ heard of the death of His cousin, He took some time to go into a "desert place apart," I'm sure to pray and reflect and mourn the loss of John, His friend. Even though Christ surely knew of the hope of the resurrection and plan of salvation, but He felt human emotions so He could understand our feelings.
14 And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.
In a moment of grief, Christ showed His loving character in reaching out to those around Him. He responded to personal sadness by serving and displaying compassion.
I love you all! Je vous aime! Ua here au ia outou!
