Our Survivor audition tape
The highlight from this week was Sr Thelin showing us an object lesson where you smash your finger with a can over a Book of Mormon and you don't get hurt. However, she somehow did something wrong and just smashed her fingers with a can of corn and then started crying. Honestly thought she broke her fingers but it was very funny and I will always admire her for the bravery and confidence.
We were in quarantine for most of the week, and then as soon as we got out of quarantine, the mission sent Sr Erickson and Sr Temanihi to join our companionship for the weekend. It was very crazy being in a quad companionship but it was still really fun!
Some fun events:
-went on a walk to the beach to get out of the house during our quarantine. Sr Smith found a coconut, took it home, and then unhusked it with nothing but sheer willpower, bare hands, and a hammer. The coconut was honestly not that great but we learned along the way. As Sr Smith herself said, the fun part is opening up the present, not necessarily the present itself.
"SŒUR Smith must think I'm stupid."
---an actual quote from a missionary handbook we read. Ouch
-Reid is progressing and is so so ready for his baptism!
My spiritual thought comes from a really awesome talk by Elder Uchtdorf that I read this week. It's called "Forget Me Not." In the talk, Elder Uchtdorf talked about Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. He said,
"In this classic children’s story, people all over the world desperately yearn to find a golden ticket. Some feel that their entire future happiness depends on whether or not a golden ticket falls into their hands. In their anxiousness, people begin to forget the simple joy they used to find in a candy bar. The candy bar itself becomes an utter disappointment if it does not contain a golden ticket...The problem comes when we put our happiness on hold as we wait for some future event—our golden ticket—to appear."
We cannot wait to be happy and find the joy in life until we receive our golden ticket. Don't forget to be happy now! There are blessings- chocolate bars, sunsets, friends, music- that are available in life TODAY, meaning that we can be happy NOW.
