"It's à little bit spécial today"
Iaorana!
There is not much to report on from this week but suffice it to say, we worked very hard, saw many miracles, and got many mosquito bites.
(We live right next to a river and the batteries on our electric mosquito swatters ran out. Horrible)
Some highlights:
We have a friend named Heihere. She is 12 and super sweet, but we had been struggling to connect with her. This week we learned that her favorite subject in school is English so we ended our lesson with a conversation practice. English is the way to Heihere's heart and it was a huge miracle to finally be able to connect with her!
Sœur Young felt prompted to visit this neighbor named Hilda! Hilda was not home but her neighbor Norma was outside. Norma told us that her dad is dying and she started crying during our visit. We shared a message about the Atonement and prayer and I hope it helped brighten her day.
On Friday, ALL of our afternoon lessons cancelled, so we decided to go on a grand tour of our area and visit all the main streets. God placed so many people in our path, including a lady whom we taught in Tahitian!
Lowlights:
On Tuesday, the Sœurs of Faaripo stole our car for a meeting in Papeete. Luckily, we only had 2 lessons in the mountains Tuesday. Unfortunately, we had 2 lessons in the mountains on Tuesday. Twas a silly adventure of pushing up our bikes on a huge steep hill for 30 minutes and then showing up late to our lesson absolutely wrecked.
Our mission president Banner went home due to health difficulties. I am a little nervous because I don't know what the future will hold for the Tahiti Papeete Mission with our temporary president.
I was reading in Alma 58 yesterday and I really liked the following passage:
And it came to pass that we did wait in these difficult circumstances for the space of many months, even until we were about to perish for the want of food
8 But it came to pass that we did receive food, which was guarded to us by an army of two thousand men to our assistance; and this is all the assistance which we did receive, to defend ourselves and our country from falling into the hands of our enemies, yea, to contend with an enemy which was innumerable
9 And now the cause of these our embarrassments, or the cause why they did not send more strength unto us, we knew not; therefore we were grieved and also filled with fear, lest by any means the judgments of God should come upon our land, to our overthrow and utter destruction.
10 Therefore we did pour out our souls in prayer to God, that he would strengthen us and deliver us out of the hands of our enemies, yea, and also give us strength that we might retain our cities, and our lands, and our possessions, for the support of our people.
11 Yea, and it came to pass that the Lord our God did visit us with assurances that he would deliver us; yea, insomuch that he did speak peace to our souls, and did grant unto us great faith, and did cause us that we should hope for our deliverance in him.
The Nephites were worried that they were the cause of their problems. Despite these "embarrassments," they turned to God for help, pouring out their souls in prayer.
What did God do?
He blessed them IMMEDIATELY. Some blessings come later, but we can always trust in the immediate goodness of God.
Love you all! Ua here au ia outou! Je vous aime!
Nana!
