Update: chickens can fly
What a crazy week.
I'm still processing it.
Let's talk about it! I have narrowed down the adventures to a few key stories but included in pictures is a screenshot is a list of ALL of the adventures. If you would wish that I expound upon any other story, do let me know.
1. Because Hermana Lander's trainee Hermana Alipoyo was flying in on Tuesday morning, Sister Dailey, Hermana Lander, and I were in a trio. On Tuesday morning, after we happened to open a gate to the church only for this giant hunk of metal that was the broken gate to fall onto the ground, we found out that Hermana Alipoyo MISSED HER FLIGHT.
Aaaah
So instead of picking up Hma Alipoyo, we were back in a trio for another day because the new flight landed at 9 pm.
It was fun to be in a trio for a little bit longer! We went to Riverside to pick up a prescription. On the way back, we somehow accidentally drove from Riverside to Moreno Valley instead of Ontario even though they are in opposite directions, but after 3 hours of driving on Cali Freeways for 130 miles, we were back in Ontario!
We picked up Hermana Alipoyo at the airport at 9 pm!
We were exhausted but it was a good and wild day.
2. On Wednesday, we had an 8 am in-person lesson with a fb friend I found a few weeks ago. His name is Jesus. We pulled up at his house and knocked. The man who answered said that he was about to leave for work, so we VERY confidently asked him for
a. His phone number
b. A time when we could come back
c. We handed him a Book of Mormon and told him to read the introduction.
We left Jesus's house a little sad that the lesson fell through, but not too worried about it.
Flash forward to 2 pm when Jesus messages me:
"Hi! I waited for you guys this morning! Are you ok?"
The man was not Jesus. We had the wrong house. Google maps took us to this other man's house and we VERY confidently told him to read and set up a return appointment without even introducing ourselves or asking for his name. We were that sure this was Jesus. My first clue could have been that Jesus's profile picture showed a bald man and this man wasn't bald, but we were CONFIDENT.
(We called the number a few days later. Javier isn't interested but was nice.)
Lesson: check your addresses multiple times and don't trust missionaries at 8 am.
3. I close this email with the story referenced in the subject headline.
After another raw poultry-related adventure on Thursday morning, Sister Dailey and I rushed to Salvation Army. Like our other times in Salvation Army, we passed out food and made food carts. Then, they told us to put on gloves and aprons.
We were bagging chicken.
So for the next 20 minutes, we took whole, raw, defrosted chickens and put them in different bags. We were with another set of Hermanas and life was good. Smelly and gross with the squishy birds, but it was fine. After each box, we took the remaining plastic bag full of chicken juice and threw it in the trash.
After the last bird was bagged, we took off our personal protection clothing and washed our hands.
We were then asked to take the trash out to the dumpster. We rolled it outside, but struggled to take out the bag. It was heavy.
Keep in mind, the garbage was full of literally just chicken water. It was HEAVY and we were short. The dumpster was tall.
We decided that pure MOMENTUM was the ~only~ way that this bag of chicken blood was going to get into the dumpster. Sister Dailey and Hermana Hutchinson started swinging the bag back and forth.
"One.... twooooo..... three!"
They let go of the bag. It slammed against the dumpster and EXPLODED. Chicken juice was EVERYWHERE. One second there was order and then: pure chaos. It smelled nasty. We picked up the plastic, threw it away and left Salvation army smelling of chickens.
And now, a spiritual thought before this email gets too long.
Yesterday I listen to a talk by Sister Joy D Jones! I really loved this quote from it:
"The placement of this commandment helps us understand that if we place Him as our main priority, everything else will ultimately fall into place—even our service to others. When He takes the preeminent position in our lives by our deliberate choice, then He is able to bless our actions to our good and to the good of others."
D&C 6:36 says "Look unto Me in every thought; doubt not fear not." I always thought of this verse as something that lists three commandments- to look to God, to not doubt, and to not fear. Recently, I have learned that it can also be interpreted as an if then promise.
If we look to God in every thought, then we will not doubt and we will not fear. When we choose Him first, we will be motivated to love and serve others.
Here is the talk! Listen to it!
Love you all!
Je vous aime and ua here au ia outou!
-sincerely your Tuahine who needs a nap
